Hypoglycemic Diet

There are a lot of different ways to approach a Hypoglycemic way of life. I know several Hypos that choose to eat whatever they like and deal with the crashes as they come. Personally that type of rollercoaster is exhausting and not something I want to deal with everyday.

When I was first diagnosed my doctor gave me the following guidelines and I strive to follow this plan everyday. The key word there is STRIVE. Some days there are birthday parties, and meals out with friends or clients and those days are harder to plan for. But other days we can focus on eating in a way that smooths the bumps in the road. This is a plan for those days:

The 1500 calorie Hypoglycemic Exchange Diet

1 free exchange

1 free exchange

Mid Snack
1 carb
1 protien

Dinner

This Exchange List over on the Mayo Clinic's website has been one of the most valuable tools for me in finding out what counts as what category and how much is allowed.

Also, I love Eatingwell.com. Their nutritional content lists out what exchanges each dish meets to take some of the research for us Hypos.

By the way, I am not a nutritionist, or a doctor...I'm just a stubborn girl who refuses to give up cooking good food simply because of a health condition.
